Remy Zhang, Piano

About

Remy Yuhou Zhang was born in April 1990 in Shenzhen, China and showed musical talent at a very young age. He began formal piano lessons at the age of five as a student of Yin Song, and in the course of his studies won awards in both district and national piano competitions. He arrived in the U.S.A. in 2002, settled in Danbury with his parents, and began to study with Edith G. Sullivan. Since then he has performed as soloist with the Danbury Symphony Orchestra, twice with the Farmington Valley Symphony Orchestra, and twice with the Ridgefield Symphony Orchestra, and has appeared in recital at CAMI Hall, the Donnell Library, and Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall in New York City.

He was the second prize winner in the Greater Bridgeport Carlson Horn Competition for Young Instrumentalists in 2004 and second prize winner in the Hartford Symphony Young Artists Competition in 2006 and 2007 and was awarded first prize in the Musical Club of Hartford's High School Piano Competition in 2006 and first prize in the CSMTA Hartford Chapter's Audrey Thayer Piano Competition in 2005 and 2006. He has presented full recital programs on the occasion of Danbury Hospital Gala Receptions in 2003, 2005, and 2006 and was sponsored in recital in 2004 at Richter House in Danbury by the Stanley L. Richter Association for the Arts. As the winner of the MTNA Senior Level Piano Competition in 2006, Remy represented the state of Connecticut at the Eastern Division Competition in Pittsburgh, PA in January 2007 and was awarded Honorable Mention.

Remy is a twelfth grade high honor student at Danbury High School, and he would like to study science and music in college. His hobbies are fishing, computers, and ping pong.
