Soo Bae, Cello

Cellist Soo Bae is winner of the 2005 Concert Artists Guild International Competition. The Korean-born cellist is the first artist on her instrument in nine years to win the coveted award. In July 2006 she became the first Canadian to ever be awarded a prize at the 6th Adam International Cello Festival and Competition in Christchurch, New Zealand, confirming her status among the premiere cellists of her generation. Born in Seoul, Korea, Soo Bae began her cello studies at the age of six, and then moved to Toronto, where she enrolled at the Royal Conservatory of Music. She went on to study at The Curtis Institute, from which she received her Bachelor of Music in 2001. Ms Bae received her Masters of Music degree and then the prestigious Artist Diploma from the Juilliard School under Joel Krosnick and Harvey Shapiro, as a full scholarship candidate. |

Ms Bae has appeared with major symphonies, in recitals, including such prestigious venues as Alice Tully Hall. In addition, she was featured soloist for the closing ceremony of the 1997 Pablo Casals Festival in Puerto Rico, where she performed on Casals' own instrument. Pianist Ying-Chien Lin is considered one of Taiwan's foremost musicians and has performed solo and chamber music concerts throughout the world including the United States, Russia, Europe, Japan, and Taiwan. Ying-Chien Lin received a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in piano performance from SUNY at Stony Brook and also the prestigious Artist Diploma in collaborative piano from The Juilliard School in May 2004. Her principal teachers include Gilbert Kalish, Jacob Lateiner, Jonathan Feldman and Rolf-Peter Wille. She has performed in master classes by Mstislav Rostropovich, Leon Fleisher, Richard Goode, Robert Mann, Lynn Harrell and others. |
