Violist Nokuthula Ngwenyama is garnering international acclaim as a villa soloist, recitalist and chamber musician. After graduating from the Curtis Institute of Music, she worked wirh Bruno Pasquier at the Conservartoire de Musique in Paris. Her primary studies have been with Alan deVeritch and Karen Tuttle. She recently completed her Master of Theological Studies degree at Harvard Divinity School. She has performed with orchestras across the United States and in recitals in Anniversary of National Public Radio's "Performance Today" in the White House. This season she will appear with the Grand Rapids Symphony with violinist Chee-Yun, and with the Syracuse, Savannah, New Mexico, Chicago, and Flagstaff Symphonies as well as recitals with pianist and violinist Melvin Chen. |

As a soloist and chamber musican, Melvin Chen has performed throughout the United States, Canada and Asia, including performances at Carnegie Hall and Alice Tully Hall in New York, the Kennedy Center in Washington and Boston's Jordan Hall. He holds a BS in chemistry from Harvard, and a double master's degree in piano and violin from Juillard. At Yale, he studied with Boris Berman, Paul Kantor, and Ida Kavafian; and at Juillard with Seymour Lipkin and Glenn Dicterow. He was selected as a member of The Chamber Music Society Two of Lincoln Center and has performed in numerous music festivals, in Marsallis on Music series on music education and on compact discs. He is a member of the piano faculty at Yale and is visiting professor at Bard College. |
