The Los Angeles Piano Quartet

The Los Angeles Piano Quartet made its debut at The Music Center in Los Angeles in 1977, and soon earned recognition as America's premier piano quartet. This accomplished ensemble has been hailed by the public and the press and featured at festivals. It has been broadcast on Minnesota Public Radio and New York's "Live from WNCN." The quartet's extensive Euorpean tours have included three performances at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam and concerts at Hanburg Musikhalle and Santa Cecelia in Rome. It is its third appearance here in Newtown.

Michi Wiancko, violin, made her orchestral debut with the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra in 1997 performing the Barber concerto. A native of southern California, she began playing violin at three. She studied with Donald Weilerstein and Robert Mann and is a graduate of the Cleveland Unstitute of Music.

 

Katherine Murdock, viola, has performed throughout the world with such groups as Music from Marlboro, the Boston Chamber Music Society and the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra. Ms Murdock has appeared at Lincoln Center as a guest of the Beaux Arts Trio. She is currently on the faculties of both the University of Maryland and SUNY, Stony Brook.

 

Peter Rejto, cello, is artistic director of the Tucson Winter Chamber Music Festival. He has performed widely throughout the United States and in Europe, South America, and the Orient. Mr Rejto is currently Professor of Cello at Oberlin College Conservatory of Music and he performs on a Montagnana cello dating from 1721.

 

Xak Bjerken, piano, has given solo and chamber music recitals throughout Europe and the USA. He has held chamber music residencies both at Tanglewood and at Spoleto, Italy. Mr Bjerken has recorded for Chandos and Koch and has made two recordings with violinist Michael Zaretsky for the Artona label. He is currently Professor of piano at Cornell University.
